Targets are applied to the part and surrounding area. The scanner is calibrated then the part is scanned. When necessary, the part is rotated to capture each side individually.
The scans are aligned, merged, and cleaned. The model is then aligned to an origin and the important features are added to the model as planes, curves, cylinders, etc. Pertinent surfaces are generated to allow further editing in a CAD system.
Models can be provided as a graphic .STL file or as a . STP model file. .STP files include all the surfaces, planes and geometry for modelling while the .STL files are best used for 3D printing.
